On April 25th, 2017 the President of Reactor-Research in Action, Marija Bashevska gave a speech at the European Parliament in Brussels, during the session of the Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality.

Invited by the Swedish foundation Kvinna Till Kvinna to represent organizations from six countries of the Western Balkan, Ms. Bashevska addressed recent developments on women’s rights through a civil society perspective.

In her speech Ms. Bashevska discussed the economic inequality between men and women and the gender gap in political representation, the deterioration of the sexual and reproductive rights as well as the failure of the public institutions to identify and penalize gender-based violence.

Discussing the situation of the civil society in the Western Balkans, Ms. Bashevska noted that the NGOs are faced with constant attacks from government officials and pro-government media, even though they compensate for the lack of public services and enable public policy monitoring.

Stressing the necessary role of civil society in the process of EU integration during her speech, Marija called on an alliance to include the gender perspective in the reform processes that must follow.

The address, acknowledged as "important and impressive" by the Kvinna Till Kvinna team, can be found at the following link (the last ten minutes of video).
