Equality between women and men is one of the fundamental rights and freedoms of the constitutional system of the Republic of Macedonia1. In 1998 the Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Promotion of Gender Equality in the Decision-Making Process. Since then, numerous legal solutions have been adopted that are aimed at promoting gender equality in various social segments. In addition, many international conventions and agreements that guarantee gender equality, which have been ratified by the Republic of Macedonia are an integral part of our legal system. The Assembly has also adopted the Law on Equal Opportunities, in May 2006, and the Law on Discrimination Prevention and Protection2, in February 2010, and thus, the domestic legal framework is compliant with both the international and the European standards promoting gender equality.
